Investors Transact Stocks Worth N7 Billion on Tuesday as Confidence Surges

Confidence jumped across the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) as investors exchanged stocks worth over N7 billion during the trading hours of Tuesday to extend the week’s gains to N59 billion.

Investors traded 464,733,314 shares worth N7.10 billion in 6,468 deals on Tuesday, against 328,391,904 shares valued at N4.038 billion that exchanged hands in 5,711 deals on Monday. Investors are scooping beatdown stocks ahead first-quarter earnings report due on April 30, 2022.

Analysing each sector, the banking sector fell on 2.94% decline in Zenith Bank, 2.56% in Fidelity Bank, 1.25% in Ecobank and 1.22% in United Bank for Africa. Gainers were Unity Bank, Jaiz Bank and Sterling Bank.

However, the consumer goods sector appreciated by 110 basis points on sustained gain in Champion, 8.41% increase in value of Nigerian Breweries, 1.49% in Unilever and 1.41% in Flour Mills. Cadbury, Intbrew and Honey Flour closed lower.

Similarly, the oil and gas index rose by 335bps on a 6.80% gain in Seplat and a 1.83% gain in Ardova. Eterna and Oando shed 3.56% and 2.95%, respectively.

The industrial index gained 3 basis points as Meyer and WAPCO closed higher with 9.77% and 0.37% respectively.

The market capitalisation of listed equities gained N14 billion to close the day at N26.184 trillion, up from the N26.170 trillion it settled on Monday. The NGX All-share Index inched slightly higher by 0.05% to settle at 48,568.57 index points.

The year-to-date return increased slightly to 13.70%. See the details of gainers and losers below.
