Fidelity Bank, International Breweries Top Stock Losers as Trading Activity Drops

Stock rout continues at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Tuesday despite a series of innovations and training instituted to ensure the capital market remained attractive.

Activity level dipped with the weak market sentiment as investors traded 214,327,583 shares worth N1.790 billion in 4,125 transactions, against 359,890,155 shares worth N2.611 billion that exchanged hands in 5,163 deals on Monday.

The market value of listed equities shed another N27 billion to N25.246 trillion following a N172 billion decline last week and another – N38 billion on Monday.

The NGX All-Share index also extended its decline to 46,843.09 index points, representing a decline of 0.11% from Monday’s close.

Investors King‘s sectorial analysis showed Fidelity Bank led banking depreciation as the Banking Index lost 99 basis points on -4.88% and -1.27% decline in value of Fidelity Bank and Zenith Bank shares.

Consumer Goods Index dipped shed 30bps on a 10% and 0.58% decline in International Breweries and Honey Flour, respectively. Gainers were Guinness, PZ and Flour Mills.

The story wasn’t different for the NGX Oil and Gas Index as the sector lost 50bps on a 3.80% drop in Oando and 0.20% in Eterna oil. Ardova Plc posted a 1.30% gain following an explanation on why the company is yet to release its audited financial statement. However, the NGX Industrial Index closed flat.

A total of 16 stocks closed in the green, against 18 that closed in the red. The Exchange year-to-date return drops further to 9.66%. See other details below.
