Nigerian Equities Market Rebounds, Open the Week in Green

Following two weeks of consecutive declines, the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) opened the week in green on Monday as 31 stocks gained against 17 stocks that lost points.

Investors exchanged 421,458,180 shares valued at N4.221 billion in 5,961 transactions during the trading hours of Monday. The market capitalisation of all listed equities appreciated by N51 billion to N25.457 trillion from N25.406 trillion it closed on Friday, while the NGX All-Share Index grew by 0.20% from 47,140.48 index points on Friday to 47,233.91 index points on Monday.

Breaking down each sector, the banking industry gained 66 basis points (bps) on the back of strong close in Fidelity Bank, Union Bank, Sterling Bank and Zenith Bank. Jaiz Bank and Ecobank posted declines.

The consumer goods industry was also up, expanding by 37bps on 8.78%, 6.67%, 5.71% and 2.94% increase in value of Champion, Intbrew, Guinness and PZ. Flour Mill, Honey Flour and Dangote Sugar were the three losers in that industry on Monday.

The industrial sector appreciated by 1bps on Cutix’s 4.02 percent while the oil and gas industry closed flat. The year-to-date gain of the Nigerian Exchange Limited advanced to 10.58 percent. See other details of top gainers and losers below.
