Equities Market Closed Flat as Activity Level Wanes

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) was unchanged on Tuesday despite 28 stocks closing in the green against 21 that lost points.

The activity level at the Exchange dipped on Tuesday as investors exchanged  274,206,976 shares valued at N3.817 billion in 5,331 transactions, against 338,025,487 shares worth N5.675 billion that exchanged hands in 5,619 deals on Monday.

The market value of all listed equities remained largely unchanged at N25.362 trillion, an N1 billion appreciation from N25.361 trillion it closed on Monday. The NGX All-share index closed at 47,064.82 index points, the same level it closed on Monday.

Sectorial analysis showed the banking index depreciated by 101bps on a broad decline in the value of Jaiz Bank (-4.17%), Ecobank (-2.80%), UBA (-2.30%) and Zenith Bank (-0.74%). The gainers were Unity Bank (4.17%), Wema Bank (1.15%) and Fidelity Bank (0.68%).

Also, the industrial index shed 2bps on a decline in value of Berger (-9.58%) and Wapco (0.38%). Cutix recorded 4.76 percent gain.

The consumer goods index appreciated by 10bps on Nascon (+9.43%), Flour Mill (+4.93%), Cadbury  (+2.31%), and Honey Flour (+1.49%). Losers included Intbrew (-2.86%), Guinness (-2.33%) and NB (-0.63%). The oil and gas index added 26 bps the back of 4.4 percent improvement in Eterna and 1.22 percent on Oando.

The year-to-date return remained unchanged at 10.18 percent. See the details of top gainers and losers below.
