Equities Market Opens the Week in Green, Investors Gain N226 Billion

The equities market opened the week in green as investors’ confidence continues to grow with positive 2021 financial statements coming out of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX).

Investors exchanged 435,799,401 shares worth N3.441 billion in 6,482 transactions during the trading house of Monday. Market capitalisation rose by N226 billion to N25.124 trillion, up from N24.898 trillion recorded on Friday while NGX All-Share Index gained 0.91 percent from 46,205.05 index points to 46,624.67 index points.

Sectorial analysis showed banking industry gained 43bps on Unity Bank, (+4.08%), Wema Bank (+3.53%), Fidelity Bank (+3.31%), UBA (+1.78%), Zenith Bank (+1.17%), Sterling Bank (+0.58%) and Access Bank (+0.51%). Ecobank (-4.58%) and Jaiz Bank (-2.86%) lost points.

The oil and gas also gained 32bps on Oando (+2.16%). Eterna (-0.17%) lost points. The industrial index gained 47bps as BUA Cement and Cutix expanded by  1.14 percent and 0.42 percent, respectively.

Consumer goods industry, however, shed 23bps on Interbrew (-3.39%), Honey Flour (-2.86%), Nascon (-1.50%) and NB (-0.10%). Gainers were guinnness (+0.94%), Champion (+0.43%) and Dangote Sugar (+0.29%).

The Exchange extended its year-to-date gain to 9.15 percent on Monday. See other details below.
