Npower has released another update concerning payment, assuring the beneficiaries that issues were being worked on.
The Npower programme has not seen a reduction in its criticisms, considering the failure to pay the beneficiaries their stipends. The lack of payment has attracted lots of criticism, both from beneficiaries and from other Nigerians who have questioned the integrity of a National Empowerment Programme that cannot even pay the required stipend on time.
Frustration has been building among the beneficiaries who have been moaning to the National Social Investment Management System (NASIMS) which is in charge of the Npower programme. When frustrations reached an unbearable point, beneficiaries of the Npower programme who were in the Abuja camp organised a protest and stormed the Public Service Institute in Abuja early last week.
The protesters made demands for their stipends and also lamented the lack of payment of their feeding allowances for three months. The protesters successfully disrupted activities at the Public Service Institute in order to get their point across.
As of today, NASIMS has made known that the September payment has finally been settled for all those who followed the instructions that were shared earlier. Some beneficiaries however refuted these claims, stating that they had not seen anything from the scheme.
The NASIMS page is very active with information about the programme, and posted a recent update about account capturing and an unplanned delay in payment on Sunday, December 12 2021.
The account reiterated that it had addressed beneficiaries on possible causes of payment delay in stipends and other areas. It then went ahead to repeat these reasons for the unknowing public.
It first mentioned the heavy traffic seen on the site during the registration process which caused it to malfunction, and therefore causing some account details to be incorrectly captured in the database. This affected some beneficiaries who could not be paid at the same time that others were being paid, which led to the account capturing process.
Also, the account mentioned negligence and impatience from some beneficiaries who could not patiently read instructions as another reason.
It however said that the scheme was working hard to ensure that all qualified beneficiaries are paid all at once, and that payments are made timely and without irregularity. It also said that collation of details for correction of payment issues is still ongoing at the Npower official website.
