Stock Investors Loses N34 Billion as 23 Stocks Closed in the Red
The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) extended its decline on Thursday as 23 stocks closed in the red, against 13 that posted gains.
Trading activity declined during the trading hours of Thursday as investors traded 210,545,180 shares worth N2.606 billion in 3,423 transactions, against 264,789,180 shares valued at N6.085 billion that exchanged hands in 4,230 transactions on Wednesday.
The market capitalisation of listed equities dipped by N34 billion from N22.623 trillion recorded on Wednesday when investors dump billions on FBN Holdings to N22.589 trillion on Thursday.
NGX All-Share Index depreciated by 15 basis points or 0.15 percent to 43,285.97 index points, pushing the year-to-date return slightly down, 7.49 percent.
As expected the NGX Banking Index depreciated by 19 basis points on the back of Unity Bank (-7.41%), Wema Bank (-2.30%), Fidelity Bank (-1.92%) and UBA (-1.19%). While JAIZBANK (+6.45%) and ETI (+1.78%) recorded gain.
The Oil and Gas Index also declined by 19 basis points on OANDO (-0.2). The NGX Consumer Goods Index gained 14bps on VITAFOAM (+10.00%) and PZ (+4.31%). HONYFLOUR (-0.29%) was a loser in that sector today. The NGX Industrial index shed 12bps on WAPCO (-1.96%).
Etranzact and Vitafoam led gainers with 10 percent each as shown in the table below.
