Nigerian Exchange Limited Closes on a Negative Note on Wednesday

Nigerian stock market closed on a negative note on Wednesday following a N112 billion profit on Tuesday.

Investors exchanged 264,789,180 shares worth N6.085 billion in 4,230 transactions during the trading hours of Wednesday, against 423,833,879 shares valued at N11.649 billion that exchanged hands in 4,181 deals Tuesday.

The Exchange All Share Index dipped by 0.22 percent to 43,349.9 basis points from 43,444.2 index points on Tuesday. Market value stood at N22.623 trillion on Wednesday, a decline of N49 billion from  N22.672 trillion filed on Tuesday.

A total of 14 stocks closed in the green against 25 stocks that closed in the red.

Sectorial breakdown shows the banking sector depreciated by 27 basis points on UNITYBNK (-8.47%), JAIZBANK (-4.62%), ACCESS (-2.67%) and FIDELITYBK (-2.26%). Gainers were WEMABANK (+2.35%), ETI (+1.81%) and UBA (+0.60%).

The consumer goods sector lost 66 basis points on UNILEVER (-7.53%), CHAMPION (-6.79%), PZ (-4.13%) and INTBREW (-1.79%). VITAFOAM (+1.06%) was a gainer in that sector today.

Similarly, the oil and gas sector shed 19 basis points on ARDOVA (-5.38%). OANDO (+0.62%) was a gainer in that space today. However, the industrial sector gained 1 basis points on CUTIX (+3.08%). See top gainers below.
