Nigerian Stock Market Extends Decline, Investors Lose Another N17 Billion

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) extended decline on Thursday as more investors continue to take profit following the recent bullish run.

Trading activity declined further as investors exchanged 160,876,647 shares valued at N1.408 billion in 3,688 deals during the trading hours of Thursday, against 292.936 million shares worth N2.059 billion investors traded in 4,899 transactions on Wednesday.

NGX All-Share Index depreciated by 31.62 index points or 0.08 percent from 41,975.45 index points achieved on Wednesday to 41,943.83 index points on Thursday.

Market value of listed stocks also declined by another N17 billion from N21.906 trillion it closed on Wednesday to N21.889 trillion on Thursday following a decline of N19 billion recorded on Wednesday.

Medium cap stocks led gainers with SCOA leading the chart with N0.09 or 9.47 percent to close at N1.04 a unit. This was followed by Linkage Assurance Plc’s N0.04 or 7.55 percent to settle at N0.57 a unit. Okomu Oil, Aiico and Honeywell Flour Mill appreciated by N7 or 5.18, N0.06 or 4.92 percent and N0.16 or N4.60 percent to close at N142, N1.28 and N3.64 per share, respectively. Year to date, the Exchange has gained 1673 index points or 4.15 percent.
