Nigerian Stock Market Gains 0.09 Percent on Tuesday Despite Weak Sentiment
Investors gained N19 billion on Tuesday despite low market activity recorded across the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) during the trading hours.
Investors exchanged 318.974 million units valued at N3.278 billion in 5,492 transactions, representing a decline of 15.65 percent when compared to 378.15 million shares worth N3.24 billion that were traded in 6,384 deals on Monday.
Market value of all listed stocks gained N19 billion or 0.09 percent from N21.906 trillion recorded on Monday to N21.925 trillion on Tuesday. NGX All-Share Index also gained 0.09 percent or 36.60 index points to 42,013.39 index points from 41,976.79 index points achieved on Monday.
The Exchange year-to-date gain rose to 4.3 percent while the month-to-date loss stood at 0.1 percent. The bourse closed in the green because of investors’ buying interest in depreciated stocks in the industrial, consumer goods and oil and gas sectors. Interest in medium to large capitalised stocks BUA Cement, International Breweries, Oando, Dangote Sugar Refinery and Lasaco Assurance.
Even with the growth recorded in market indices, 31 stocks closed in the red while only 10 stocks closed in the green.
International Breweries led gainers with N0.50 or 9.62 percent to close at N5.70 per share. Lasaco Assurance followed with N0.09 or 8.33 percent to close at N1.17. See other details below.
