Nigerian Exchange Limited Opens October With N13 Billion Gain

Nigerian stocks opened the month of October with N13 billion gain on Monday as investors continue to increase their stake ahead of third quarter financial reports.

Investors exchanged 202,355,622 shares valued at N1.864 billion in 4,066 transactions during the trading hours of Monday while the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) All-Share Index expanded by 0.05 percent to 40,243.05 index points from 40,221.17 index points it closed on Friday.

Market value also rose by N13 billion to N20.969 trillion on Monday, up from N20.956 trillion recorded on Friday. The gain was as a result of positive close recorded in medium and large capitalised stocks like Eterna, United Capital, AXA Mansard Insurance, Pharm-Deko, FBN Holdings, etc.

A total of 23 stocks closed in the green against 14 that closed in the red to boost the Exchange by 0.05 percent.

Mansard led gainers with N0.23 or 9.89 percent to close at N2.56 per share. Pharm-Deko followed with N0.23 or 9.79 percent to settle at N2.58 a unit. University Press, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance and Courteville Business Solutions gained N0.12 or 9.76 percent, N0.05 or 8.77 percent and N0.03 or 8.57 percent to close at N1.35, N0.62 and N0.38 per share.

Investors jumped on Fidelity Bank to push to the top of the most traded stocks with 18952333.00 shares worth N46,769,179.97. GTCO came second with 18265625.00 shares worth N512,414,562.05. See the details below.
