Nigerian YouTube Creators, Artists Can Now Apply For Black Voices Fund

Nigerian content creators and artists on YouTube can now apply for grants from the company’s Black Voices Fund.

YouTube said its global $100 million fund would offer financial support to black artists and creators to thrive on its platform.

Alex Okosi, the Managing Director, Emerging Markets, YouTube EMEA, said the platform planned to invest with intention to “present fresh narratives that emphasise the intellectual power, authenticity, dignity and joy of Black voices, as well as to educate audiences about racial justice.”

YouTube Black Voices Fund was was first announced in June to focus on United States and Few other Countries, however, it has now been extended to Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.

“Our goal is to expand funding to more countries over the course of the next three years,” he adds. “Additionally, we hope to provide a consistent drumbeat of educational training, workshops, and community events to Black creators and artists globally,” he added.

Okosi said the fund is part of efforts to ensure that YouTube is a place where Black artists, creators and users can share their stories and still be protected.
