German Government and EU to Train 185 Nigerians on Renewable Energy Development

The Government of German and the European Union are working together to deepen knowledge of renewable energy in Nigeria.

The programme which targets 185 participants commenced on August 10, 2020. It was gathered that the programme would enhance the skills of trainees on how to access funds for the development of renewable energy projects in Nigeria.

Through the scholarship programme on solar energy and energy efficiency, selected participants will learn how to use renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies to address some of the nation’s challenges and significantly cut cost and create more business opportunities in the country.

The programme, titled ‘Nigerian Finance Training Programme on Solar Energy and Energy Efficiency,’ consists of a six-week online training and a three-day face-to-face training in Lagos and Abuja.

According to the team behind the training, access to credit facility for such investments is limited due to lack of understanding of the renewable energy and energy efficiency applications. Therefore, they said this unfamiliarity increased the perceived risk of investments in these technologies.

Katrine Thomsen, Head of Section, Economic Cooperation and Energy of the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, in a report made available to the press explained how the training would positively impact the industry.

She said, “The Solar Energy and Energy Efficiency Training will teach project developers to develop bankable project proposals that are suitable for funding.
