The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said vandalism of the nation’s pipeline rose by 50 percent in the first month of this year.

In the NNPC’s Monthly Financial and Operations Report released Wednesday, the corporation said 60 pipeline points were vandalised in January, 50 percent increase when compared with the 40 recorded in December 2019.

The report stated that the Atlas Cove-Mosimi and Mosimi-Ibadan axis pipelines accounted for 50 percent and 17 percent of the breaks, respectively. While the remaining 33 percent were from other routes across the nation.

It added that NNPC collaboration with local communities and other stakeholders would help reduce vandalism, especially at a period like this.
