  • COVID-19: Nigeria Confirms 86 New Cases on Sunday

The number of COVID-19 infected people surged by the most in Africa’s most populous nation on Sunday, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

According to the centre, 86 new cases were confirmed on Sunday to take the total number from 541 reported on Saturday to 627. Indicating that the pace of spread has increased in the last one week with death rate due to the virus rising by 7 in just one week from 12 recorded since the outbreak to 19

A break down showed 70 new cases were confirmed in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city while another 7 new cases were reported in FCT, 3 in Katsina, 3 in Akwa Ibom, 1 in Jigawa, 1 in Bauchi and 1 in Borno.

In its usual Twitter post, the centre said: “As at 11:50 pm 19th April there are 627 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria.”

Therefore, the total number of confirmed cases in Lagos has now jumped to 376; FCT-88; Kano- 36; Osun- 20; Oyo- 16; Edo- 15; Ogun- 12; Kwara- 9; Katsina- 12; Bauchi- 7; Kaduna- 6; Akwa Ibom- 9; Delta- 4; Ekiti- 3; Ondo- 3; Enugu- 2; Rivers-2; Niger- 2; Benue- 1; Anambra- 1; Borno- 1 and Jigawa- 2.
