• COVID-19 Confirmed Cases Rise 84 to 407 in Two Days

The numbers of infected people in Nigeria rose to a record-high on Wednesday as more people tested positive to coronavirus.

President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the nation’s ministry of health to create more testing centres and directed that at least 4,000 people be tested per day. With more testing centres, more people are now testing positive to the deadly virus in Africa’s largest economy.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 20 confirmed cases on Monday at 9:50 pm; 30 on Tuesday at 11:00 pm and 34 on Wednesday at 11:20 pm to take the total number of confirmed cases to 407, up from 373 reported on Tuesday.

The centre said on its official twitter page @NCDCgov that “Thirty-four new cases of #COVID19 have been reported as follows: 18 Lagos; 12 in Kano; 2 in Katsina; 1 in Delta and 1 in Niger.”

“As at 11:20 pm 15th April there are 407 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 128 have been discharged with 12 deaths,” NCDC stated on Wednesday.

The 34 confirmed cases was the highest number of infected people ever reported in a single day by the NCDC  since COVID-19 first broke out in February. The number of deaths also rose by 20 per cent in the last three days. An indication of the severity of the situation.

Also, the recent reports highlighted the surge in the pace of spread and the likelihood of the Federal Government to extend lockdown to other states like Osun, Kano, Kaduna etc.
