• COVID-19: NCDC Confirms 12 New Cases, 9 in Osun

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, April 1st announced twelve new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria to take the total number of confirmed cases in Africa’s most populous nation to 151.

In a message published on the centre official twitter page, it reads: “twelve new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 9 in Osun, 2 in Edo and 1 in Ekiti State.”

“As at 12:30 pm 1st April there are 151 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Nine have been discharged with two deaths.”

A break down of the cases revealed that a total of 82 cases were confirmed in Lagos; FCT- 28; Osun- 14; Oyo- 8; Ogun- 4; Edo- 4; Kaduna- 3; Enugu- 2; Bauchi- 2; Ekiti- 2; Rivers-1 and Benue- 1.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases rose more than 850,000 with over 42,000 deaths in 180 countries, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In South Africa, confirmed cases rose by 93 to 1280 as the total number of confirmed cases rise in Africa.

“It is with sadness that we announce the second death of a patient who had tested positive for COVID-19. The 74 year old male had been in ICU and ventilation in a private hospital in Ladysmith.

“He had travelled to Kruger National Park with his family and came back with flu like symptoms. He was confirmed to be COVID-19 positive on the 27th March 2020,” the statement signed by Health Minister Zwelini Mkhize read.
