• NNPC Says 21.51bn Litres of Petrol Sold in 13 Months

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Sunday said Nigerians used 21.51 billion litres of petrol valued at N2.64 trillion between December 2018 and December 2019.

The corporation said its subsidiary, the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), sold 21.861 billion litres in 13 months with petrol accounting for 98.41 per cent. This was despite NNPC saying daily petrol consumption had dropped from about 60 million litres per day to 52 million litres per day due to the border closure.

President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the closure of Nigeria’s land borders in August 2019 to curb the smuggling of petrol and other items across the nation’s land borders. However, with this report, it appears the exercise has not been effective as daily consumption is expected to surge in 2020 after the president ordered the resumption of delivery of petroleum products to border communities on Sunday.

NNPC put the total revenue generated from the sale of white products at N2.71 trillion, with petrol contributing around 97.56 per cent or N2.639 billion of the total sales.

In December, N337.63 billion was released from the sale of white products by the PPMC, higher than the N105.62 billion recorded in November 2019.

Also, the corporation reported 40 vandalised pipeline points, about 41 per cent decrease when compared with 68 points recorded in November 2019.

Atlas Cove-Mosimi and Mosimi-Ibadan axis accounted for 35 per cent and 30 per cent of the breaks respectively, while other routes accounted for the remaining 35 per cent.
