Mr. Iraj Harirchi, the Deputy Health Minister of Iran, has been infected with coronavirus according to a report published on the government website on Tuesday.

“The Coronavirus test for Mr Harirchi, the deputy health minister who was on the front lines combating the coronavirus, was positive,” Alireza Vahabzadeh, a media adviser to the health minister, said in a tweet.

Harirchi was the main man at the forefront of the virus in Iran since the surged in the number of victims.

A New York Times report had put the total number of infected people in the Islamic nation at 12 but another report said the number has risen to at least 50 on Monday that Iran was likely hiding the impact of the deadly virus on its economy. That was after Italy reported at least over 200 cases of infected people.

“The United States is deeply concerned by information indicating the Iranian regime may have suppressed vital details about the outbreak in that country,” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters in Washington.

“All nations including Iran should tell the truth about the coronavirus and cooperate with international aid organizations,” he said.
