Plans are underway by the first Egyptian smartphone maker, Silicon Industries Corporation (SICO), to export its devices to Germany by next month (November).

This, according to SICO’s chairman Mohamed Salem, would enhance its expansion plan to sell its products in Europe and Africa.

Salem further disclosed that the company would also export to Holland, Austria and then Sweden, Norway and Finland.

Reuters reports that SICO, which already exports to the Gulf, signed an agreement in October with a company operating in Europe to market its products.

SICO manufacturers a range of 3G/4G mobile phones and smartphones which include the Nile X smartphone.

“We signed agreements with three Chinese companies to manufacture phones for them for export to Africa and to offer on the Egyptian market,” Salem said.

“We started manufacturing them a month ago and the first of these products will be distributed inside the Egyptian market next week.”

80 percent of the company is owned by private sectors, while the remaining 20 percent is maintained by Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

According to Salem,  SICO is currently exporting about 25 percent of its capacity, but working towards exporting 50 percent of its products by the end of 2020.
