  • BBNaija Generates Over N7.2bn From Votes

Nigerians voting for their favourite contestants on Big Brother Naija Reality TV show spent N7.2 billion on votes, according to the organisers of the show.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the host of the show, said a total of 240 million votes were received in the fourth season tagged Pepper Dem Gang, 41.17 percent higher than the previous season.

Fifty million of that votes were cast in the final week alone. Again, more than the 30 million votes received in the last week of Double Wahala.

The numbers recorded in the fourth season doubled the number of votes received in the previous season, Double Wahala.

With each vote costing N30, Nigerians spent N7.2 billion (240,000,000 x 30) on votes during the season, more than the N5.1 billion recorded in the previous season.

A total of N1.5 billion (50,000000 x N30) of that amount was spent in the final week alone.

Apart from the earnings from votes, the show generated additional revenues from sponsors paying for adverts. The total earnings, according to a Businessday estimation, could be well over N10 billion.

Mercy, the winner of the season, received N30 million cash, SUV worth N25 million, a trip for two, and household gadgets both worth N5 million.

The prize worth N60 million in cash is N15 million more than the N45 million won in the previous season.
