  • Atiku says US Visa Restrictions Confirmed Election Rigging

The former Vice President and the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the just concluded election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said the new United States visa restrictions on Nigerian politicians suspected to have rigged the general elections has validated his position that the poll was rigged in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also noted that the Buhari administration and allies engaged in propaganda to discredit his suit against the administration for rigging its way back to the office.

According to him, the new visa restrictions is a validation of his position that election was rigged in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Morgan Ortagus, the spokesman for the US State Department, had said: “We condemn those whose acts of violence, intimidation, or corruption harmed Nigerians or undermined the democratic process.

“The Secretary of State is imposing visa restrictions on Nigerians believed to be responsible for, or complicit in undermining democracy in Nigeria. These individuals have operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights.”

Atiku said the US statement vindicated him that the 2019 elections were “undermined by the actions of state actors and institutions.”

He added, “We also wish to thank the United States of America for standing with the Nigerian people against those whose desire it is to truncate our democracy. We urge the Nigerian people not to despair. There is hope on the horizon.”
