Mobil Producing Nigeria, ExxonMobil, on Monday said it paid a total renewal fee of $665 million for three oil blocks, therefore, the company is not owing the Federal Government as previously reported by the media.

The Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIPRPP) had accused the company of owing the Nigerian government $1.8 billion in fees.

This was after an investigation was conducted on a petition filed by Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) accusing the company of only paying $600 million out of the $2.5 billion or N900 billion required for renewal of three oil block licenses.

Mobil, however, refuted the accusation, saying it paid $665 million for the renewal of Oil Mining Leases 67, 68, and 70 in accordance with the agreement reached with the DPR and the NNPC.

“We have again searched our records on this matter and wish to provide some additional information that supports our position that the renewal fees required of the MPN related to the renewal of OMLs 67, 68 and 70 have been paid in full,” the company stated in a letter released on Monday.

SPIPRPP led by Mr Okoi Obono-Obla gave the oil company three weeks to remit the remaining balance to the federation account.
