Total Upstream Nigeria Limited and its partners have inaugurated and handed over 10 corporate social responsibility projects valued at N1bn to Borno, Kogi, Sokoto, Kwara, Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara.

Other partners that supported in the establishment of the projects were the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, CNOOC, Sapetro and Petrobras.

Speaking at the official handing over ceremony in Abuja, the Deputy Managing Director, Deep Water District, Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited, Ahmadu-Kida Musa, said the inauguration of the projects was in furtherance of the oil firms’ CSR as part of their deep water operations.

He said, “The projects we are inaugurating today were constructed and equipped at a cost of about N1bn. They include the ICT Centre with mini theatre at Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare, Bauchi; ICT Centre with mini theatre at Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto; Mammography Centre at General Hospital Anka, Zamfara; and Maternal and Child Referral Centre in Bama, Borno.

“Others are School Science Laboratory at Government Secondary School, Dutsinsafe, Katsina; block of six classrooms at St. Boniface Primary School, Idah, Kogi; Water Project at Bennin Kebbi, Kebbi State; Water Project at Sokoto Specialist Hospital, Sokoto; Water Project at Offa, Kwara; and Water Project at Inye, Kogi.”

Musa noted that these projects were borne out of the need to mitigate the gaps in qualitative and technical education, maternal and child health, as well as access to clean water and sanitation.

He noted that NNPC/Total and her partners had continue to intervene in the social-economic environment of Nigeria through the deployment of various projects.

Musa said, “Annually, the company provides 1,600 scholarships to beneficiaries in tertiary institutions. Other projects include construction, equipping of model schools, science laboratories, and ICT centres.

“In the area of health, the company is constructing four units of maternal and child referral centres in the North-East to assist the women and children impacted by the ongoing insurgency in the area.”
