Flutterwave, Nigerian payment startup, has announced it will launch in South Africa later this month following the approval of its licence by the South African Reserve Bank.

Flutterwave facilitates payment for service providers, merchants and pan-African banks.

Since it was launched in 2016, the payment startup said it has processed over 100 million transactions valued at $2.5 billion for clients like Uber, Facebook and Transferwise, among others. Presently, partners 50 banks across Africa.

Its headquarters is in San Francisco, US, while African offices are in Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, and now Johannesburg.

Flutterwave plans to introduce its latest product, RAVE, to the South African market.

The company said RAVE “solves the challenge of fragmented payments infrastructure on the African continent by providing a solution which allows multiple payment channels to be made and received via a single integration.”

Olugbenga GB Agboola, Flutterwave CEO, says: “We are more than just a payments company; we are in the business of growing businesses.”

This, he said is in line with the company’s mission to, “inspire a new wave of prosperity across Africa by building payments infrastructure to connect Africa to the global economy.”

In May, the company received its ISO 27001 and 22301 certifications from the International Standards for Organisation (ISO) in Switzerland.
