  • North Korea: Envoy to U.S. Executed Over Failed Summit

North Korea’s special envoy to the US and other officials involved in the nuclear negotiation has reportedly been executed over the failure of the recent summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.

The second Summit was recorded to have held on the 27th and 28th of February 2019. At this meeting, Trump and Kim couldn’t come to an agreement that suits both parties, hence the failure of the Summit.

It was rumored with no clear evidence of the execution of the alleged envoys and officials in North Korea.

According to Reuters, the envoy and other officials were accused of spying for the United States and poorly reporting on the negotiations without properly grasping U.S. intentions. However, this report has not been confirmed.

According to South Korea’s Chosun llbo newspaper, the Envoy “Kim Hyok Chol” was executed by firing squad in March along with four other foreign ministry officials, the paper reported, citing an unidentified North Korean source.

North Korea neither confirmed nor denied the report. South Korea’s government was not able to confirm the claim as well. The certainty of this news in unclear as the execution is rumored to have occurred in March. It can’t be determined the impact this will have in future negotiations within the two countries.

North Korea is known to sentenced officials identified as unproductive or guilty of one offence or the other to forced labor or prison camp as a method to purge such act and instill the right one.
