- Nigerian National Charged With Murder in Malaysia
A Nigerian national, Alowonle Oluwajuwon, has been charged to court in Malaysia for the murder of Siti Kharina Mohd Kamaruddin, a chief nurse.
Siti Kharina, 40, was a nurse at Serdang Hospital before she was murdered at Third Avenue Condominium in Cyberjaya, Selangor between 9 and 15 of May, when she reportedly disappeared and eventually declared missing.
Oluwajuwon, 36, entered Malaysia with a tourist visa in January 2018, according to the Malaysian police.
“He entered the country using a tourist pass last January… and he has overstayed in this country,” Malaysian police stated.
Oluwajuwon, who is presently without a legal counsel, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. If convicted, he will face the death penalty.
Two other suspects arrested with Oluwajuwon, a 35-year old Nigerian woman and a 38-year old Pakistani man were released on bail.
However, they were asked to surrender their passports until the case is concluded.
While Malaysian government has declared all-out war against Nigerians in the country and have been conducting raids to arrest and prosecute illegal Nigerians, Nigerians in Malaysia that spoke with our correspondence expressed shocked at the news and the numerous attacked on Africans, especially Nigerians.
Ahmed, who resides in Malaysia, said it is a unique story as Nigerians are generally wary of Malaysians. They may fight or harm each other but to hurt a Malaysian to the point of death is highly unusual.
Few others said Oluwajuwon was dating the nurse, the separated mother of three. According to them, she paid for his rented apartment and basically responsible for his upkeep. Therefore, it is unusual he will kill his benefactor.
Other Nigerian groups, even suggested maybe the husband the victim separated from had her followed to the suspect apartment in Cyberjaya.
At this point, nobody seems to really have a concrete knowledge of the situation as Oluwajuwon is currently without a lawyer and the Nigerian embassy seems not to be involved or doing much.
Oluwajuwon merely nodded his head when the interpreter hired by the court read the charges levied against him in English on Monday.
The case was adjourned until July 31, 2019.
