  • Uber, Edo State Meet on Possible Investment Partnership

Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has met with the management of Uber to discuss investment opportunities in the state.

The meeting which took place at the Government House in Benin City emphasised opportunities in the state as the governor embarked on an all-out campaign to industrialize the state and enhance job creation by attracting real investors to available opportunities.

Obaseki promised Uber management team that the state government will honour all contracts and agreements, protect genuine investors and provide an enabling platform for businesses to thrive.

The state has piqued the interest of both local and international companies on the back of Obaseki’s efforts to transform the state into an investment hub by opening up economic zones and meeting with investors to lure them to the state.

In recent months, Facebook and MainOne have been building internet infrastructure in the state to improve internet connectivity and provide support for the state growing tech ecosystem.

The Uber visit came five months after Taxify, now Bolt, kicked off operations in the state capital, Benin City.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Taiwo Akerele; commissioner for infrastructure, Osahon Amiolemen; commissioner for arts, culture and diaspora affairs, Osaze Osemwingie-Ero; managing director, Edo Geographic Information Service Agency (EdoGIS), Frank Evbomwan; senior special assistant to the Governor on Job Creation and Skills Development, Ukinebo Dare and senior special assistant to the Governor on Investment Promotion, Kelvin Uwaibi, among others.
