Australia-based Fluid Management Technology Pty Limited has launched a fuel management system in Nigeria in collaboration with Extreme Industrials Limited, a Nigerian firm.

The technology, called SmartFill Gen 2, was unveiled in Lagos on Wednesday.

The Chief Executive Officer, Extreme Industrials Limited, Mr Abiodun Doherty, said, “We are the exclusive distributor of SmartFill Gen 2 for the whole of West Africa. We believe that this product is very important in the Nigerian market because it is going to prevent a lot of leakages.

“One of the reasons companies bleed is because people steal from them. And one of the key areas where a lot of companies have been losing money is in the area of fuel theft. This technology is called fluid management technology, and it is used to prevent theft and to ensure that every single fuel or fluid an organisation uses is properly accounted for.”

He said the technology could be used by organisations to monitor the volume of fuel used for power generation by as well as transportation, distribution and logistics.

Doherty said, “Because of the power situation in Nigeria, a lot of people and organisations have to rely on diesel. Also because of our logistics, transportation and distribution system, we have to put a lot of things on the road. So, you have to use trucks to move things from one place to another, and you need fuel to do that.

“This technology has advantages over several systems. As far as fuel management is concerned, this is the world’s most functional system. When you install it, nobody is asking you to come and pay for data; data is available. It is very simple to operate and very durable.”

The Business Development Manager, Asia Pacific, Fluid Management Technology, Mr John Weedon, described the technology as the world’s most functional fuel management system.

He said, “Our three design principles keep fuel flowing and ensure that every drop is recorded to make accounting and fuel management easy.

“The SmartFill Gen 2 is to help companies in managing their fluid, understanding where their fluid is gone, and eliminating theft.”

While highlighting the benefits of the system, he said, “Data can be recorded online, with no need for special software; modular design allows for rapid installation and repair; and click-in and click-out design requires no special technical skills.”

According to him, the technology records fuel use for in excess of 2,000 vehicles and records the past 5,000 fuel issues in memory.
