Mobile subscribers in Nigeria are spending big on airtime purchase, according to a report obtained from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Nigerians spent about N767.23 billion on airtime between November 2018 and January 2019.

The industry’s Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) provided by network operators revealed subscriber spent N1490.22 per month.

While NCC data showed Nigeria has 168.73 million active GSM subscribers on MTN, Globacom, Airtel and 9mobile networks in November 2018.

The number of active subscribers ticked up to 172.63 million in December and 173.63 million in January 2019.

Going by the average ARPU per month for the period under review, Nigerians spent N251.44 billion on airtime in November and that number rose 2 per cent to N256.04 billion in December 2018.

In January 2019, Nigerians spent N258.74 billion, taking the total amount spent on airtime in the three month period to N767.23 billion.
