The Federal Government has tasked quantity surveyors on low cost of contract and value maximisation, noting that competent professionals, including Quantity Surveyors are needed to ensure that projects are executed at minimal costs.

The government pointed out that the challenges associated with the provision, renewal and replacement of critical public infrastructure assets required the involvement of construction industry professionals, especially registered Quantity Surveyors.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who said this during the induction of new Quantity Surveyors in Abuja, noted that the professionals are relevant to the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan of the FG by virtue of their training.

He said, “The high cost of construction projects requires the skills and knowledge of Quantity Surveyors to address in promoting resource optimisation and value maximisation.

“I heartily congratulate the new inductees but with a note of caution; The status you are attaining today bestows on you a responsibility for probity and professionalism as you are expected to maintain high standards devoid of compromise and fraudulent activities as you practice the profession.”

Alongside accelerated delivery of new infrastructure, Fashola said his Ministry had identified the maintenance of infrastructure as of equal priority.

“It is our belief that improved maintenance of our public buildings, roads and other infrastructure will enable government derive maximum value from these facilities, deliver improved public services quality, stimulate economic growth, create jobs and generally improve the quality of life of its citizens,” the minister said.
