The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has said Nigerians applying for the new improved international passport will pay N70,000.

Sunday James, the spokesman for the NIS, said the agency will start issuing the new international passport from Monday, March 4, 2019 in Abuja.

While Ikoyi office will commence issuance by March 25, Kano on April 1, Alausa, Ikeja in Lagos to start issuance on April 8 and London, United Kingdom April 15.

James further said multiple rollouts would follow in New York, Washington, and Atlanta, USA on April 22 after the London.

According to James, the newly improved passport has 10-year validity, self-tracking of applications and express centres for urgent application.

Other benefits include weather friendliness, compliance with latest ICAO standard, polycarbonate technology that reduces the incidence of damage as well saves Nigerians in the Diaspora time of frequent visits to Nigerian Embassies.

He, however, urged “Nigerians to take advantage of the reforms, avoid patronising third party or touts and utilise the online platforms provided by the service for their passport application.”
