Petrocam Trading Nigeria Limited has unveiled its seventh solar-powered filling station with a capacity to dispense 22,500 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and 45,000 litres of diesel.

Located in Epe, Lagos, the new station has five gas skids, five underground tanks, four tanks for PMS and one tank for Automated Gas Oil (diesel).

The firm said in a statement that prior to its current drive to penetrate the local market, its major focus was on the importation of refined petroleum products such as petrol, kerosene, naphtha, lubricants and greases for oil marketing companies in Nigeria.

The Managing Director, Petrocam Trading Nigeria, Mr Patrick Ilo, at the inauguration of the station, said the firm was passionate about green energy, which he described as a solution to poor power supply.

He said fuel marketers should be more innovative by using solar energy and other off-grid power solutions to achieve growth, adding that they would be able to reduce their costs of operation, and play better in the subsector.

According to him, the station generates more than 75,000 kilowatts of electricity yearly through solar, and leverages solar energy to provide power to the neighbouring streets in the area.

Ilo urged the Federal Government to fully deregulate the downstream subsector of the oil and gas industry, adding that this would spur growth in the subsector.

He said, “We are looking at building a refinery. Refinery is one of the things in our agenda, but for a refinery to flourish and for us to make return on investment, there has to be deregulation of the downstream subsector. It won’t be bankable to go into the business of building a refinery if the price of petroleum is still being pegged.”
