Labour, Government Officials Meeting in Abuja Over Minimum Wage

  • Labour, Government Officials Meeting in Abuja Over Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress and other members of the tripartite committee are presently meeting in Abuja over the new national minimum wage.

The NLC had previously refused meeting with the Federal Government following the refusal of the government to honour N30,000 minimum wage agreed and set by all the members of the tripartite.

The meeting holding in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation is being attended by officials of the Federal Government, representatives of the organised private sector and representatives of labour unions.

Members of the tripartite are expected to sign the final agreement today and forward it to the president through SGF, Boss Mustapha.

The government had proposed N24,500, while Governors proposed a different amount of N22,500, citing limited resources.

NLC refused both figures and immediately called for a nationwide strike by all its member. The strike was previously scheduled to commence tomorrow, however, the outcome of today’s meeting will decide if the strike will go on or not.
