The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has today invalidated the rumour of a forthcoming reappraisal in the price of petroleum products.

Mr Ndu Ughamadu, The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, of the NNPC, in a statement released today in the Federal Capital, stated that the Federal Government has no intention to reappraise upward or even downwards, the price of petroleum products; as against the misinformed trending rumour by Nigerians on social media.

Also, in the statement, Mr Ughamadu remarked that the NNPC had been the exclusive importer of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol; and this is as regards to the inability of  of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to carry out their individual imports, as a result of the Open Market Price which is much higher than the N145 per litre, the official pump price.

The NNPC spokesman, went further to advise those spreading the fake news to desist from such acts, as it can lead to feigned scarcity of petrol; which in turn brings about unnecessary long queues at petrol stations and sufferings which are not called for to Nigerians, especially as the festive period is close by.

Mr Ughamadu also pointed out, that any fuel station that sale above the official N145 per litre, should be reported to the department charged with the responsibility to regulate and monitor the activities of the NNPC, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) offices all over the states of the federation.

In a closing statement, Mr Ndu Ughamadu remarked that the General Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru, alongside other officials in the helms of affairs in the corporation, had already strategized measures by stocking a 37 days of petroleum reserves, that will enable Nigerians enjoy a festive period void of petrol drama.
