  • Delta Cancels Lagos-Atlanta Flight Twice Over Poor Weather

United States carrier, Delta Air Lines, has had to cancel its Atlanta-Lagos flight in the past two days due to poor weather in that country.

As a ripple effect of the cancellation, the airline’s Lagos passengers are said to be stranded due to the inability of the carrier to airlift them to their destination.

It was gathered that over 500 passengers were affected by the development.

The airline operates four weekly flights to Lagos from its base in Atlanta, Georgia, with another three weekly flights to Lagos from New York.

Although the airline did not make an official statement on the development, a source said it had sent out messages to passengers affected by the cancellation.

The source with knowledge of the issue, however, stated that only the Atlanta route was affected, while the New York flight had been operating normally, adding that two flights would arrive Lagos from the US today (Wednesday), one at 3am and the other at 5pm, to airlift the affected passengers.

The two flights, according to the source, will then depart the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 10pm for Atlanta.

“The management of Delta Air Lines has already sent out weather and travel advice to the affected passengers. That is why most of the passengers are not on ground at the Lagos airport. Delta has a standard, which it cannot compromise. It is not possible for it to airlift passengers in bad weather,” the source added.
