• TCN Increases Transmission Substations’ Capacities by 190MVA

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has upgraded the capacities of three substations in three states of the federation.

It said the upgrade led to an increase in the cumulative capacities of the substations by 190 Mega Volt Amp.

The TCN said the three new 132/33kV power transformers had been energised and put into service in Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Lagos states.

The General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, said two 60MVA transformers were inaugurated in Calabar and Uyo, while the firm also replaced a 30MVA with a 100MVA transformer at the Alimosho transmission substation in Lagos.

She stated, “The capacities of the Calabar, Uyo and Alimosho 132/33kV substations prior to the commissioning were 180MVA, 120MVA and 160MVA, respectively.

“The three substations have been upgraded to 240MVA, 180MVA and 230MVA for Calabar, Uyo and Alimosho after the commissioning.”

Mbah added that the 60MVA transformer in Calabar, which was inaugurated by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, would improve the quality of power supply to customers of the Port Harcourt Distribution Company in areas such as Calabar municipality, Calabar South, Odukpani, Bakassi, Ogoja, Ikom, Yakuur, Itighidi, Ugep and Obudu, among others.

According to the TCN, the 60MVA transformer in Uyo was inaugurated by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

It said the upgraded substation would improve power supply to customers in Uyo, Oron, Ikot-Ekpene, Abak, Ethan, airport and environs.

“The 100MVA transformer at Alimosho is expected to significantly improve power supply to customers of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company in the following areas: Agege, Abule Egba, Ekoro, Ajasa Command, Gowon Estate, Shagari Estate, Okunola, Idimu Road, Olorun Adaba, Shasha, Santos Layout, Akowonjo, Orile Agege, Aribania, Dopemu, Oko Oba, Tower Aluminium, Iju Road and Tabontabon,” the TCN stated.

The firm noted that the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, had so far this month inaugurated into service a 40MVA mobile power transformer in the Umuahia substation and a 60MVA transformer in Aba.
