As part of efforts to boost business relations between Nigeria and India, over 100 Indian businessmen are expected to meet and develop partnerships with Nigerians at an exhibition starting today (Tuesday).

The exhibition, tagged: ‘Source India’, is organised by the Trade Promotion Council of India in association with the High Commission of India, Abuja with the support of the Nigeria-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among others.

The Director, TPCI, Mr. Sandip Das, stated that the exhibition, holding in Lagos from Tuesday to Thursday, would be the largest Indian business buyers and sellers’ meeting in Nigeria, and would feature products from machinery, automobile and components, food spices, Information Technology, chemicals for paints, pigments for food, and plastic and rubber.

Das said, “Source India is a concept spearheaded to improve trade relations with target countries. Two years ago, we started with Kenya; last year, we were in Ghana; Nigeria is the fifth country where we are having this globally. These are strategic countries where we see a lot of potential.

“There will be about 100 delegates from India, coming not only to meet buyers for their products, but to also partner Nigerian businesses to manufacture products rather than exporting finished products. This will help both economies.”

He noted that Nigeria and India had been trade partners for a long time, with India buying Nigeria’s crude and selling food items to the country.

“But in the last two years, business between both countries has not been doing well; so, we are coming down to see how we can do it better,” he said.
