The Federal Onne Lighter Terminal, Rivers State is to take delivery of 350,000 metric tonnes of fertilisers in April, the Port Manager, Nigerian Ports Authority, Onne Port Complex, Al Hassan, has said.

He disclosed this to our correspondent on the sidelines of a two-day meeting held by the Managing Director, NPA, Ms. Hadiza Usman, with stakeholders in Onne, Rivers State on Thursday.

Hassan told our correspondent that the fertilisers would come in from Morocco as part of the Federal Government’s National Fertiliser Initiative.

While addressing stakeholders during the meeting, Hassan said that the NPA management had dredged two berths at the port for the Federal Government’s fertiliser blending project, adding that this would have a multiplier effect on job creation and revenue.

He noted that harbour operations at the port had also improved and vessels traffic handling increased from 662 in 2016 to 684 in 2017.

“Gross tonnage at Onne Port Complex moved from 39,867,311MT in 2016 to 42,903,447MT in 2017. Cargo throughput and our service response time also improved significantly, showing that Onne Port has appropriately aligned with the Presidential Enabling Business Council,” he said.
