A leading cocoa processing company in Nigeria, Plantation Industries Limited, has won the 2018 Global Food Safety Initiative Markets Awards in food safety.

Plantation Industries said in a statement that the award was a reward of its huge investment of capital, expertise and energy as well as seamless good manufacturing practice and strict adherence to hazard analysis and critical control point regime in processing cocoa beans into high food grade cocoa products.

The statement said the GFSI Global Markets Awards recognised five companies that must have shown exemplary way on their way to food safety system certification applying to four regions of the world and a special recognition for the company hosting the Global Food Safety Conference.

It said Plantation Industries Limited won the award for African region on account of its food safety journey with noticeable developments, food safety management system with implementation evidences and third-party conformity assessment.

Plantation Industries said that the GFSI markets award for the African region was a testimony to their high standard of operation, consistent production of excellent quality products over the years and a reflection of its capacity to produce and deliver safe food to its customers everywhere, thereby contributing to the reduction of hazards in global food supply chain.

According to the statement, the firm said the award put them on track to actualise the company’s vision of committing to the production and delivery of cocoa products of high quality to meet statutory, regulatory and customer food safety requirements, using the most appropriate food grade production facilities with strict adherence to established good manufacturing practices.
