  • We’ll Improve Vessels Turnaround Time, Vows NPA MD

The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Usman, has said that the agency will improve the turnaround time of vessels and reduce delay at the ports.

To achieve this, she said the NPA management was keen on entrenching accountability and efficiency at port locations across the country.

Usman stated this during a ceremony held by the agency to reward its workers, a statement from the agency indicated.

A total of 567 workers from all the port locations across the country were rewarded at the event, according to the statement, adding that Usman commended the workers for their outstanding performance during the year and noted that their dedication and sacrifices had impacted positively on the operations of the agency.

“In the coming years, we assure you that we will do our best to improve the conditions of service of staff and raise the morale of our people,” she said.

Thirty gallant firemen who were able to combat the recent fire outbreak in one of the nation’s seaports earned commendation from the NPA MD, who described the act as worthy of emulation in view of the colossal loss of lives and equipment prevented during the incident.

She also said that work on port access roads was on course and huge amount had been spent to clear the mess along the roads and make them more accessible.

The Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Mohammed Bello-Koko, was quoted to have said that the event was a follow up to the maiden edition held last year.

The President of the Senior Staff Association of Communications, Transport and Corporations, Benson Adegbeyeni, thanked the agency for instituting the long service and merit award ceremony.

He was said to have assured the management of improved cooperation and support of the workforce towards nation building and the actualisation of its cardinal thrusts.

The Port Manager, Calabar Port, Mrs. Funmilayo Olotu, was quoted to have pledged the commitment of the workers to taking the organisation to another level worthy of emulation in line with international best practices.
