The Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association, Lagos State Chapter has called for the establishment of more mechanic villages in the state.

The newly elected NATA Lagos Chairman, Mr. Julius Lawal, who made the call during his inauguration, said this would reduce the activities of quacks mostly operating on the roadside.

Lawal, who was elected alongside 17 other executive members, noted that it would also enable them to professionally discharge their duties and pay the appropriate taxes to the government.

He said that the welfare of members would be the new executive’s priority while a cordial relationship with the government in the state would be encouraged to improve members’ performances.

According to him, members of the association will also be adequately trained in order to improve their skills in handling newly-manufactured vehicles coming with modern technology.

Lawal said, “One of my major plans is to uplift the image of the association in the state. Besides, we want to take it as a matter of priority to move closer to the Lagos State Government and ensure that our members are provided with mechanic villages where they can practise their profession in a good environment.

“I also want to advise my members to be law abiding and pay their taxes regularly to the state government in order to support the government. We will also ensure quality training for our members in the state. As I am talking to you now, some our members are in Oando Plc undergoing training in its facility.”

While commending the immediate past executives in the state, he said a lot still needed to be done especially in the area of the construction of a befitting secretariat for NATA in Lagos.

The Head Business Development and Strategy, Kodzone Technologies Limited, Mr. Olu Omoyeni, said the company would continue to collaborate with auto mechanics in the state and the country at large.

He stated that with the ongoing electronic registration of all NATA members on the Mecofinder app, an online platform to find mechanics, the company was sure that every member of the association could be accessed anywhere, anytime on the go through the portal.

He added, “In addition, we remain committed to ensuring a new positive perception and image for the association is created in the minds of the Nigerian public and that due government recognition is accorded the association in its rebranding efforts.

“We will ensure in our capacity that we help to deepen the level of professionalism of the association by assisting with sharing of technical know-how and new trends in global automobile industry.”

The National General Secretary, NATA, Mr. David Ajetunmobi, also urged the new executives to encourage members of the association to embrace new technologies in auto repairs.
