The Zonal Coordinator, North Central – ‘A’ Zone, National Health Insurance Scheme, Alhaji Ganiyu Onimajesin, says he has intensified enlightenment campaigns and improved on strategies to make the scheme more efficient.

The Kwara State Coordinator, NHIS, Dr. Abubakar Abdulganiu, shared Onimajesin’s views, saying that there was still low acceptance of insurance by the people.

The two officials spoke in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, during an interactive forum for enrollees and other stakeholders.

They identified national economic challenges, high poverty level, socio-cultural and religious factors as limiting factors, and urged enrollees to demand for efficient service delivery.

“We still have some complaints that make the service delivery not to be satisfactory. We want all the stakeholders to know the areas where they have to improve upon so that we will all together build the NHIS that is our dream,” Onimahesin said.

He added, “The reasons for the low acceptance of NHIS are varied. We have problems with some people because of social-cultural and religious factors. Some people believe only God can insure people’s health.”
