  • Development: NPA Join Forces with WIMA

In order to ensure the sustainable development of the country as it affects women, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has expressed its readiness to join forces with Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA), Nigeria.

It stated that its management was committed to its resolve to support and encourage developmental programmes and goals initiated by credible women organisations across all spheres of the nation.

It explained that its focus shall be in the area of manpower development and utilisation across the country.

The Managing Director of the NPA, Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman gave this assurance when she played host to the executive members of WIMA Nigeria at NPA House, the corporate headquarters of the authority at Marina, Lagos.

Usman stated that the desire to collaborate with WIMA Nigeria was not the first as the present management has over time collaborated with groups and captains of industries meaningfully on developmental programmes to better the economy.

She assured that that NPA was willing to further sustain these in order to ensure the progress of the country.

President of WIMA, Mrs. Jean Chiazor-Anishere had earlier in her opening remarks stated that the association was at the NPA to solicit co-operation especially for their project in the rural areas aimed at encouraging women in these vital areas who are into fishing.

Anishere, a legal practitioner and immediate past President of WISTA Nigeria, said WIMA Nigeria required driers, freezers amongst others just as she pointed out that the African Union (AU) has a policy tagged ‘’Blue Economy’’ which recognizes the role of “Aqua Culture” through which women would be empowered for greater self-sustenance and relief to the economy.

According to Anishere, the initiative was an encouragement for them to achieve women empowerment which remains one of the key objectives of WIMA Nigeria.
