- Honeywell Completes Remodelling of Apapa Roundabout
Honeywell Flour Mills Plc has concluded the remodelling of the Tincan Island second gate roundabout in Apapa, Lagos, and has handed same over to the Nigerian Ports Authority.
The management of the company stated at the handover ceremony that the roundabout had been remodelled into a world class piece of architecture and that the project was to complement the efforts of the government to make the environment sustainable, friendly and conducive.
The Managing Director, Honeywell Flour Mills, Mr. Lanre Jaiyeola, said the firm embarked upon the project to restructure, remodel and renovate the roundabout about three years ago as part of its contribution to the beautification of the Tin Can Island environment, and more importantly, to reduce traffic around the previously massive roundabout.
“The idea was to create more space for vehicular movement, reduce the traffic gridlock and the number of trailer accidents around the roundabout. It is a way of giving back to the community in which we operate in terms of corporate social responsibility,” he said.
Jaiyeola urged the NPA to collaborate with the Ministry of Works to accelerate the completion of the trailer park in the community to further enhance easy access to the port, increase revenue generation to the government and make life better for everybody.
He also called on the government to revisit the Oshodi/Mile 2/TinCan Island Apapa road with a view to making it more motorable.
The General Manager, Western Port, NPA, Mr. Biodun Gbadamosi, commended Honeywell for the initiative.
He said it came when the government was accelerating efforts to give the entire Apapa environment a facelift through massive road rehabilitation.
“Government is also planning to connect Tincan by rail to ease the movement of goods and services,” he added.
