Lagos Pays N28bn Pensions in 22 Months

  • Lagos Pays N28bn Pensions in 22 Months

The Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Lagos State, Dr.Akintola Oke, has said that the state government has paid N28bn to retirees in 22 months.

He said this during the 12th retirement benefits documentation seminar organised by the Lagos State Pension Commission for employees who are due to retire from the state public service between July and December this year.

“In the last 22 months alone, the Lagos State Government has paid accrued pension rights of approximately N28bn into the Retirement Savings Accounts of 6,509 retirees,” Oke said.

The commissioner, who noted that the state had continued to remit money into the workers’ RSAs, disclosed that it had paid about N62bn into the RSAs of about 13,000 retirees since the commencement of the payment of entitlements under the Contributory Pension Scheme in the state.

He stated that Lagos State was the only state in the federation that was up-to-date in its monthly remittances to the serving employees’ RSAs.

The Director-General, LASPEC, Mrs. Folashade Onanuga, said the aim of the seminar was to educate the intending retirees on how to provide documentation, enlighten them on steps to take and areas where they need to pay attention to in order to aid prompt processing of their entitlements.

“One of those areas is on the issue of your RSA and the need for you to pay close attention to its contents,” she said.
