Expert Calls for Establishment of Customs Board

  • Expert Calls for Establishment of Customs Board

A maritime expert, Mr. Lucky Amiwero, has called on the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, to constitute a Nigeria Customs Service board as a way of addressing the shortfall in policy direction and implementation.

Amiwero stated this in a letter addressed to the President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

He said, “We wish to bring to the attention of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, the need to constitute the Nigeria Customs Service board to address the shortfall in fiscal policy direction that has generated controversy due to lack of properly constituted board to direct the fiscal policy implementation as contained in the Customs and Excise Management Act C 45 of 2004.

He noted that the board, if established, would be charged with the duty of control, management and administration of the Customs and Excise laws, collect the revenues of Customs and account for them in such manner as may be directed.
