Lagos Motor Fair to Promote Cottage Industries

  • Lagos Motor Fair to Promote Cottage Industries

Arrangements have commenced for the hosting of the 12th edition of the Lagos Motor Fair and Auto parts Expo Africa, the organisers have said.

The fair, according a statement from the organisers, will be used for the promotion of cottage industries in the spare parts sub-sector of the automotive industry.

The statement quoted the Chairman of the organising committee, Mr. Ifeanyi Agwu, as saying, “We are using this to enhance the development of cottage industries in the spare parts sub-sector of the automotive business sector of the economy with the attendant multiplier effects on the economy of the nation.

“The need to ginger activities in the sub-sector to complement the setting up of auto clusters as espoused by the automotive policy is another factor we took into consideration.”

The organisers said that the event has been slated to hold in Lagos in April, adding that its scope had been widened to cover the entire continent of Africa.

Agwu was also quoted as saying that the target of the event was to make dealers in Africa get their source of supply of auto parts and cars from the Nigerian market.

He said, “We are laying a great emphasis on the spare parts sector in this edition as the current challenges confronting the automobile companies have seen a huge number of them with little or no sales, with some closing down or downsizing and the surviving ones relying on after sale service.

“We are using this edition to push further the importance of after sale service, which heavily rests on the availability of quality auto parts and accessories used in servicing and or repairing vehicles.

“Our target is to attract many reputable original equipment manufacturers of spare parts from across the globe to participate in this edition as well as in subsequent ones. Quite a large number of confirmed original equipment manufacturers from all over the world are already booking to be at the show.”
