Restructuring of Aviation Agencies’ll Boost GDP

  • Restructuring of Aviation Agencies’ll Boost GDP

The ongoing restructuring that led to the dismissal of many workers in different aviation agencies will help the sector increase its contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product, the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, has said.

According to him, the restructuring in the aviation sector is also in line with the objective of the International Civil Aviation Day, which is to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of member states of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

In October, the Federal Government fired about 21 senior officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria in a major shake-up at the agency.

Those affected, including directors, general managers and deputy general managers, were reportedly handed their termination of appointment letters, as officials at the Ministry of Aviation hinted that the sacking was the first batch of the shake-up planned by the government to reposition FAAN as well as other agencies under the ministry.

In his message to commemorate the International Civil Aviation Day, Sirika explained that the reason for the current restructuring in the aviation sector was to properly reposition it to contribute more to the national GDP and also place Nigeria in a position to give leadership and direction to other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
