Nigerians have been enjoying dizzying discounts from major electronic commerce retailers, including Jumia, Konga, Yudala, Dealdey, Slots and others in commemoration of Black Friday (today).

Findings by our correspondent showed that consumers got as much as 50 per cent off mobile devices and some household products from some of the retailers.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving Day and the Friday before Cyber Monday in the United States. It is a busy shopping day and is a holiday in some states.

Although the concept is relatively new in Nigeria, e-commerce sites have deployed it to woo more customers and reward loyal ones.

On one e-commerce portal for instance, buyers are offered as much as N45,000 discount off a freezer that originally sells for N100,000, while a LED TV that sells for N56,300 is offered for N38,950.

Similarly, a refrigerator with the original price of N107,200 can be obtained for N86,625, while a sandwich maker of N14,450 is offered for N8,400. A food blender of N52,870 can be obtained for N37, 520.

Another portal gives out a gas cooker worth N77,000 for a discounted price of N65,000.

Gadgets and electronics are not left out of the bumper deal, in one of the popular phone shops that also has an offline outlet, a smartphone worth N47, 000 is offered for sale at a discounted price of N37,000; a tablet worth N115,000 is sold for N61,000; while a laptop that originally sold for N126, 500 can be obtained for N109, 850.
